Announcing Changes to the Walkley Foundation Ltd. Advisory Board

A letter from Walkley Foundation Ltd. Chair and Trustee Quentin Dempster.

On behalf of the Walkley Trustees, I would like to announce that after three successful years as Chair of the Walkley Advisory Board, Kate McClymont has completed her term. We thank Kate for her service and welcome a new chair in Angelos Frangopoulos, who previously served as Deputy Chair.

In her time as chair and trustee, Kate has made a significant contribution to guiding the Walkley Foundation through change, working with Laurie Oakes to secure our deductible gift recipient status, making it simple for anyone to support the Walkleys’ vital work. Kate also steered us through a review of the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism, and the resulting changes to this year’s awards are also announced today. Kate will be missed, and we wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

The 12 members of The Walkley Advisory Board play a pivotal role in the work of the Walkley Foundation Ltd. All senior members of the Australian media industry, they are the custodians of the Walkley Awards and are responsible for judging the overall winners. They also act as ambassadors for the Foundation.

We would like to welcome the incoming chair Angelos Frangopoulos, who is the CEO and Managing Editor at Australian News Channel Pty Ltd (ANC), the operator of the SKY NEWS services and the leading provider of 24 hour television news services in Australia and New Zealand. We are confident that he will lead the Walkleys through the exciting times ahead.

We also welcome Lenore Taylor as the new Deputy Chair of the board. Lenore is Guardian Australia’s editor. During almost three decades of political reporting, she won two Walkley awards and twice won the Paul Lyneham award for excellence in press gallery journalism.

Further I am pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Crerar, BuzzFeed Australia’s Editor in Chief, to the Walkley Advisory Board. Simon leads a growing editorial team publishing impactful news reporting, entertaining content, viral videos, and the most shared memes in Australia. Prior to BuzzFeed, he worked at The Times and Sunday Times in London, and at News Corp Australia.

I also thank retiring Advisory board members Anne Davies, Marina Go and Cameron Stewart for their contribution over the last three years.
Yours sincerely,

Quentin Dempster
Chair, Trustee
Walkley Foundation Ltd.
