In 2009 the Walkleys introduced an online entry registration process. This year's awards will be announced at a gala dinner at the Australian Jockey Club, Sydney on Thursday November 26. For the first time, the 2009 Gold Walkley winner will be jetting off on an overseas trip. Qantas have provided business class airfares to the winner's choice of international destinations, and there is also five-star luxury accommodation thanks to Kiwi Collection.

The call for entries for the 55th Walkley Awards will open in July 2010.

Helpful hints for online entry:

1. You should allow about 30 minutes to complete the entry form requirements.  Your progress will not be saved if you close your awards entry before it is finished, so please ensure you allow enough time to complete your submission.  There is a time-out limit of inaction of 60 minutes. Your entry will not be submitted until the very end of the process and not until you have read and agreed to the Conditions of Entry.

2. Photographers need to fill out an online registration form from the Walkley Awards site as well as upload their images onto the Nikon website.  Go to http://ww2.nikon.com.au/ppy to apply for access.  When accepted, photographers will receive a user ID and password as an SMS message or by email.  Entrants must log on and load JPEG photos as per instructions (original images will be saved on the system but all images will be automatically resized to 600 x 400 for equality in the judging process).  All details for photographs must be entered online.  Resizing information may appear in the caption area; please delete this and insert your caption.  Photographers will still need to send in their emailed entry form with original entry number and a disc of the submitted images in high resolution.

3. Your supporting statement is 400 words maximum this year and the system will not let you continue if you go over this limit.  We suggest you prepare this in advance using a word processor and do a word count before pasting it into the entry box provided.

4. If you are a union member you will need to have your membership number handy. If you are submitting a joint entry on behalf of others you will need the membership numbers of your joint entrants too. Your membership number is on the front of your membership card.  If you do not have it with you please request this information directly from the Alliance membership centre.  All joint entrants will need to access their own personal information as no numbers will be issued without the consent of the entrant.  Please email a request for your membership number to be sent to you.  Please note if you are doing this over the weekend that our offices are closed and it may be Monday before someone gets this information back to you.

5. Also ensure that you have full contact details for all joint entry contributors involved in the submission including name, position and email address.

6. Please read through the award criteria before starting your submission to ensure you meet all requirements.

When you are ready, you can submit your entry online.
