For the third year in a row, the Global Editors Network (GEN) and The Walkley Foundation, with the support of Google News Lab, will gather some of the best Australian media innovators from a variety of platforms (print, digital, broadcast) to develop innovative news prototypes on the theme “Connecting with local communities”. See what happened last year.
Connecting with local communities: How can newsrooms better understand and serve the needs of local and hyperlocal audiences? What tools can be useful to highlight community-specific reporting or make national or international stories relevant to local audiences?
Your three-person team should include a journalist, a developer, and a designer. They will be expected to build a working prototype of a news product or service during the event.
Editors Lab is a worldwide series of hackathons hosted by leading news organisations. The winning team from each earns a spot in the two-day Editors Lab Final in May 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. The winning team in Sydney will have the opportunity to compete against peers from around the world on a truly global stage at the GEN Summit.
