Radio/audio journalism

Caitlyn’s (@CaitlynGribbin) first journalism posting was at the Gribbin Gazette, the newspaper she created at age 10. After a brief self-employed stint, she abandoned her reader base of more than 40 bemused relatives; the girl from country Queensland had decided ABC Radio was the place for her. In 2009, Caitlyn moved to Mount Isa in north-west Queensland as ABC Radio’s rural reporter. She then headed east to Bundaberg, before working as a national rural reporter in Brisbane. Caitlyn is now based in Perth as an ABC News radio current affairs journalist, reporting for the flagship programs AM, The World Today and PM.

Judges’ comments:

“Caitlyn Gribbin’s entry demonstrated not just her tremendous skills as a journalist but obvious skill and passion for the medium of radio. She was particularly skilled in her use of audio to give the stories extra emotion and depth. This showcased her understanding of the importance of context and setting to the art of telling someone’s story.”
