Cairns-based freelance photographer Brian Cassey has won the People’s Choice Award at last night's Nikon-Walkley Photographers’ Slide Night in Brisbane for his work covering the overcrowded living conditions in Hong Kong.
‘Life in a Coffin’ was a follow-up project to earlier photojournalism work documenting the overcrowded living conditions of impoverished Hong Kong residents, a subject Brian feels strongly about.
The 70-strong Slide Night audience at Brisbane Powerhouse chose ‘Life in a Coffin’ for the People’s Choice Award from a field of 20 entries, winning Brian a new Nikon 1 V1 camera.
Brian said the Nikon-Walkley Slide Nights are a fantastic opportunity for photographers to feature their work to an engaged audience at a live event.
"Some of the work there was brilliant, which makes this award even more special. It gives many photographers a showcase for their work, which would not normally be seen," he said.
