Are you a brilliant storyteller or innovator on any media platform?

The Walkley Foundation for Journalism seeks your input!

We’re putting together the program for our four-day festival of ideas, innovation and storytelling: Storyology, in Sydney from December 1-4, 2014.

We’re looking for bold and engaging speakers: brilliant writers and storytellers, digital gurus and entrepreneurs. If you fit this bill or have a great idea for a session, then let us know.

Storyology invites narrative creators to share their bold ideas – it’s a space to inspire, inform and encourage collaborations and experimentation.

This event unites hundreds of journalists, authors, graphic novelists, screenwriters, producers, multimedia creatives and entrepreneurs for debate and discussions on cutting-edge issues in media, inspirational talks, workshops and networking.

We attract more than 600 media professionals to the event and thousands more tune in to our live Twitter feed. They want to know how new media tools can help them reach massive, global audiences, diversify and find new niches for their work. They want to know how to find the funding they need to thrive.

We’re looking to present sessions at Storyology on:

  • Interactive documentary
  • Virality and sharing
  • Flash fiction
  • Collaborative cross-border reporting
  • Audience engagement
  • Screenwriting
  • Crowdfunding
  • Entrepreneurial thinking
  • Game theory
  • Narrative songwriting
  • Storytelling for social change
  • Digital and traditional long-form
  • New tools and techniques of the trade
  • Mastering social media
  • Monetising content
  • Cross-platform storytelling
  • Photography
  • Radio documentary
  • Digital and data journalism
  • Gaming narrative
  • And more!

… if it’s creative, novel and interesting, we’d like to hear about it!

Who we are – and how we can help you

The Walkley Foundation is Australia’s peak body for journalists and hosts this event jointly with the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) – Australia’s largest and most established union and industry advocate for Australia’s creative professionals: built on integrity and powered by creativity.

The Walkley Foundation is a non-profit organisation and speaker contributions are volunteered. We have a very limited travel budget! However, should your application to be part of Storyology be accepted, we will consider on a needs basis assisting with your local costs in Sydney for the duration of the event.

We would also work in partnership with you and your organisation to showcase your skills to an Australian audience and, if desired, facilitate a side itinerary and further introductions to the best of our local industry.

We have access to the best and brightest minds in the Australian media as well as a huge network of key contacts in academia, government and corporate Australia.

OK, sign me up!

It’s easy to pitch – simply email us with  your full contact details and either a 200-word statement, links to a short video or audio about how you can contribute to Storyology.

Please also include links to any websites that best showcase your work.

We’re also on the lookout for videos and visual media to play between Storyology sessions. If you’re a film-maker, animator or a Vine/YouTube wizard, we’d love to see your ideas for 30-120 second clips. Inspirational, innovative, funny and intriguing – send us your ideas …

Expressions of interest must be received by Friday May 2, 2014.
