2012 Walkley Awards
The winners of the 57th Walkleys Awards for Excellence in Journalism were announced at the Walkley Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner in the Great Hall of the Parliament of Australia in Canberra on November 30, 2012.
The West Australian journalist Steve Pennells won the Gold Walkley Award, along with the Walkley Awards for Best Scoop and Social Equity, his third Social Equity Walkley Award.
The Age photojournalist Justin McManus was named 2012 Nikon-Walkley Press Photographer of the Year for a wide-ranging portfolio of news photography.
Regional newspaper The Border Mail claimed the Walkley Award for Journalism Leadership for its 'Ending the suicide silence' campaign, while former ABC foreign affairs correspondent Peter Cave won the Walkley Award for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism.
