Finalists for the 2010 Young Australian Journalist of the Year have been announced.

More than 100 journalists submitted entries for these awards of which 15 nominees have been shortlisted across print, radio, television, photography and online media.

Judges said: “the standard of work from all finalists was brilliant and the quality of the content uplifting, a credit to the dedication our finalists have to producing excellent journalism”.

The winner will embark on the trip of a lifetime, flying to the US and UK to visit major media organisations in London, New York and Washington, with a cheque for $5,000. The federal secretary of the Media Alliance, Christopher Warren said: “I’m really pleased to see journalists from provincial papers in there competing with metropolitan mastheads, with all their resources.

“The Young Journalist Awards program is a great way to celebrate and foster our emerging talent. And the quality of this year’s entries shows that there is some remarkable talent on the rise, something about which we should all be very excited.”

Category winners and the overall Young Australian Journalist of the Year winner will be announced at a cocktail event on June 23 at Goldfish, Kings Cross, Sydney. For more information contact: Alison Larsen, (02) 9333 0917.
