Applicants must have a right to work in Australia. Applicants with diverse backgrounds encouraged to apply.
The applicant must be aged 30 years or under at the time of application.
The applicant can be currently doing journalism, but must not be working as a journalist full-time or earning the majority of their income from journalism.
Undergraduate or postgraduate students will be eligible however you do not need to be a university student.
Recent journalism or communication graduates who do not receive the majority of their income from journalism may also apply as long as they are 30 years or under.
The successful applicant must be able to participate in the fellowship for the entire 12-week period from August 2021.
The chosen applicant must fulfil the entire 12 weeks of the fellowship.
The fellowship will be undertaken at either:
Nine Melbourne (across 9News, The Age and 3AW),
Guardian Australia in Sydney, or
Ten News First and The Courier-Mail in Brisbane.
The fellowship recipient will receive a stipend of $14,000 to cover living expenses including travel and accommodation expenses for the duration of the fellowship.
The successful applicant will participate in tasks assigned to them by their host media organisation. During the fellowship, the successful applicant will be bound by the same obligations as regular staff members.
The successful applicant is expected to keep confidential any information obtained during the course of the fellowship. On completion of the fellowship, the successful applicant must provide a report (written or filmed) outlining their experience and how it developed their understanding of journalism.
