June Andrews Award for Freelance Journalist of the Year

Reporting with flair and vigour from difficult locations across the planet landed Dave Tacon the 2012 Walkley Freelancer of the Year Award. Dave’s work appeared in Monument and Rolling Stone magazines and covered wide ranging subjects including the vibrant arts scene of Beirut, communities working in garbage dumps of Jakarta and street crime of Port Moresby. He currently resides in Shanghai.

Judges’ comments:

“Dave reported from three difficult-to-work-in locations with flair and vigour. The Jakarta and Port Moresby stories were particularly strong and newsworthy, told with empathy and passion. It was versatile freelance journalism at its best and no aspect of the different journalistic disciplines suffered for the other.”
