About The Walkley Foundation
The Walkley Foundation, a highly respected not-for-profit organisation committed to excellence in journalism, is looking for an experienced senior manager to join its team. The foundation is best known for its many awards and programs, including Australia’s premier journalism awards, the annual Walkley Awards. It also oversees the John B. Fairfax Family Young Journalist of the Year Awards, the various state media awards on behalf of MEAA, and third party awards and grants, including the Sean Dorney Grant for Pacific Journalism, the Our Watch Award, and the Facebook News Funds. It also organises training, webinars, industry events, and panels such as the recent Regional Journalism Summit.
Reporting to the CEO, The Walkley Awards senior manager will be the key contact for the 2022 Walkley Awards. They will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the judging process, subject to a strict confidentiality agreement, and will report to the CEO.
They will coordinate meetings and diaries, take notes and minutes of judging sessions, manage the entry database and answer all questions from first round judges and the Walkley Judging Board related to the judging process, terms and conditions and categories. They are not part of the decision making process but are responsible for ensuring that judging decisions are made in accordance with the Walkley charter.
The manager will assist the rest of the Walkleys team in the preparation of communications about the winners and with organisation of the event.
Applicants should be process-driven with a strong knowledge of journalism and the media industry.
Accuracy, integrity, personal skills, a high-level eye-for-detail, administrative prowess and confidence with management of digital databases and online meetings are essential. Experience in managing an online judging system would be an advantage.
