December subbing course
If you missed out on November's sub-editing course there's good news: the Alliance, in conjunction with The Walkley Foundation, will hold another two-day intensive training course covering the fundamentals of sub-editing, with an introduction to InDesign. The course will be conducted by Kerrie Lee and Kim Jacobs.

When:
Two consecutive Saturdays, December 3 and 10, 9.30am to 5.30pm

Cost (includes morning and afternoon tea):
$500 per person

Venue: Media Alliance Federal Office, 245 Chalmers Street, Redfern, Sydney

Saturday, December 3: Fundamentals of Sub-Editing

Includes grammar and punctuation, aids to accuracy, pitfalls and how to avoid them, subs' responsibilities, and liaising with writers and designers. There will be practical lessons in subbing raw copy, writing heads, intros and captions, and fitting copy to layout, with individual feedback.

Saturday, December 10: InDesign training

Aimed at training people in the latest developments in one of the key digital publishing platforms. Customised for subs, with a focus on text features, the lessons will be put into practice with hands-on computer work on typical InDesign layouts.
