The Media Alliance is proud to annouce the first in a series of practical training courses for journalists of all levels.

SOCIAL MEDIA FOR JOURNALISTS

Know the basics of social media but want to put those tools to work for your reporting? Learn techniques for community building and engaging, plus newsgathering and research techniques (advanced Google searching, RSS, delicious, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, audio and image tools), with our international trainer Claire Wardle, and local social media guru Julie Posetti.

Claire is a digital media consultant, trainer and researcher, specialising in journalism, social media and User Generated Content (UGC). She has developed and is currently facilitating a program of training and consultancy on web tools and social media for the BBC College of Journalism. Claire was previously an academic at the Cardiff University where she wrote a series of articles, book chapters and research reports on different aspects of journalism and media.

As a radio and television journalist with the ABC, Julie Posetti reported politics and social affairs at the national level. In recognition of a series of reports on racism and Hansonism for ABC Radio Current Affairs (AM and PM) she was awarded the 1996 Human Rights Award for Radio by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission. The same year, Julie was also a Walkley finalist for Best Investigative Story for an AM series on the abuse of children in state care. Julie now teaches journalism at the University of Canberra and freelances for online publications and blogs including Crikey, New Matilda and J-Scribe. Follow Julie on Twitter @julie_posetti.
